Hi, I’m Tera Shapiro, founder of Tera’s Lactation Care.
I am a Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). My passion for serving women and families was born during my 14 years as a Labor and Delivery nurse. Becoming a mom to my own three children showed me how truly meaningful and impactful compassionate care is for a family. I started my career in Labor and Delivery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, followed by a short (and fun!) stint as a travel nurse in Hawaii, before coming home and working at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Milwaukee for eight years. Being surrounded by knowledgeable co-workers and with my background in Women’s Health, I thought breastfeeding would be natural and easy. However, I still found myself struggling with the all-consuming and challenging nature of breastfeeding. I realized then, in a very personal way, that all breastfeeding women need and deserve support. I passionately studied and became an IBCLC in order to empower women by providing evidence-based care. I understand that the breastfeeding/chestfeeding journey is an incredibly vulnerable and precious time for a growing family. Your goals are my goals, and I am honored to support you on your journey.

Hi, I'm Robin Faber. My story started as a dream to work with babies. This led me to 12 years working in labor and delivery after graduating from nursing school. Helping parents bring their babies into the world brought me so much joy. With my background, I thought the labor and delivery process had to be the hardest part of having a baby. After I had a fairly traumatic birth with my son, I was surprised that breastfeeding was actually the hardest part for me! I leaned on my lactation consultants and will be forever grateful to them for getting me through the first few weeks. That's when I knew I wanted to provide that kind of support to families. I got my IBCLC in 2021 and was able to become a lactation consultant at the same hospital where I was working in L&D. The first days with your baby are so special but they can be a big adjustment. I'm happy to help newborns in the hospital but also see families when they've had some time to settle at home. The breastfeeding journey is always evolving and looks different for everyone! I love to come up with plans tailored to each family to find a rhythm that works well for them.
